Freer ISD Calendar – The Freer Independent School District (FISD) is a public school district based in Freer, Texas, United States. The district was established in 1906 and currently serves about 1,000 students in three schools: Freer High School (grades 9-12), Freer Junior High School (grades 6-8), and Norman Thomas Elementary School (grades PK-5).

The first school in Freer was established in 1883 in a small building on the corner of Main and Washington Streets. The school was called the Freer Public School and it served students from grades 1-8. In 1906, the Freer Independent School District was formed and the Freer Public School became Freer High School.

In the early years, Freer ISD was a small district with only a few schools. However, the district grew rapidly as the town of Freer grew. In 1925, a new high school building was built and the Freer Public School was converted into an elementary school. In 1954, a new elementary school was built and the Freer Elementary School was renamed Norman Thomas Elementary School.

Freer ISD Calendar 2023-24

In recent years, Freer ISD has made significant improvements to its facilities and programs. In 2009, the district completed a major renovation of Freer High School. The renovation included a new library, a new cafeteria, and new classrooms. The district also added a new Early College High School program in partnership with Texas A&M International University.

Freer ISD is committed to providing a high-quality education for all of its students. The district has a strong focus on academics and extracurricular activities. Freer High School students have consistently scored above the state average on standardized tests. The district also offers a variety of extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and fine arts programs.

Freer ISD School Calendar 2023-24

• Fall Break: All Freer ISD schools will be closed from September 20-22.
• Early College High School Registration: Parents and students interested in enrolling in the Early College High School program can register on October 10.
• STAAR Testing: The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests will be administered on October 28 for grades 3-8 and on February 16 for grades 5, 8, and 11.
• Thanksgiving Break: All Freer ISD schools will be closed from November 22-25.
• Winter Break: All Freer ISD schools will be closed from December 19-January 2.
• School Board Appreciation Month: Freer ISD will be celebrating School Board Appreciation Month in January with a variety of events, including a serenade from Los Bucks mariachis and certificates of appreciation from the district.
