Freer ISD Calendar – The Freer Independent School District (FISD) is a public school district based in Freer, Texas, United States. The district was established in 1906 and currently serves about 1,000 students in three schools: Freer High School (grades 9-12), Freer Junior High School (grades 6-8), and Norman Thomas Elementary School (grades PK-5).
The first school in Freer was established in 1883 in a small building on the corner of Main and Washington Streets. The school was called the Freer Public School and it served students from grades 1-8. In 1906, the Freer Independent School District was formed and the Freer Public School became Freer High School.
In the early years, Freer ISD was a small district with only a few schools. However, the district grew rapidly as the town of Freer grew. In 1925, a new high school building was built and the Freer Public School was converted into an elementary school. In 1954, a new elementary school was built and the Freer Elementary School was renamed Norman Thomas Elementary School.

In recent years, Freer ISD has made significant improvements to its facilities and programs. In 2009, the district completed a major renovation of Freer High School. The renovation included a new library, a new cafeteria, and new classrooms. The district also added a new Early College High School program in partnership with Texas A&M International University.
